| From the Hill Tribes of Western India and Afghanistan, a bone hilted dagger with a T back blade and recurved blade. The sturdy blade is coarsely finished and shows the application of the T back which is incised with a geometric design,. The graceful recurve fits the unusual metal scabbard precisely. The bone hilt bears traditional designs and the tang area is banded in brass bearing similar designs. The metal scabbard is speculated to be a WW1 or WWII replacement during the time when British Colonial troops served in Europe. I have found no research to support this speculation. There is some darkening near the ricasso on both side but while the blade needs needs cleaning I see no signs of rust pitting. The course finish suggests the work of a village smith. 1890-1910, 13" overall, 8.5" blade | |||||||||||||||
