|A high quality, private purchase Officers sword dating to the 1870's. Unified Imperial Germany is at it's zenith and men from titled families served not only in the military but also in leadership roles keeping Germany's cities safe. High ranking Officers in the various quasi military, police organizations wore military style uniforms and helmets as well as traditional military swords. Our example has a very fine quality, beautifully patterned damascus steel blade mounted on a brass hilt. The hilt has the classic lions head pommel favored by many German Officers, with a plain D or stirrup guard. The back strap and ferrel have a traditional pattern. The scabbard is black leather with brass mounts and a double ring suspension. The brass has a nice, untouched patina and the leather is in very good condition. The blade is in excellent condition with only two very small areas of rust. Date 1870's. Length in scabbard 35.25", blade 30.2".|
