Persian Papier Mache Pen Box, Late 19th c
A Qajar polychromed lacquer papier mache pen box with sliding tray and rounded ends, intricately and delicately overworked with gilt handpainted details, on the top we have two cartouche bearing two different beauty, the sides are again decorated with 4 more cartouche depicting four different portrait and each cartouche is spaced by very detailed and finely executed floral designs by highly skilled artist. The artist's signature and date, 1201 AH, is marked on the right side of the top section. The box is is lavishly inlaid with gilt design on all surfaces even on the sliding tray. Dimensions: The box has a length of 9 inches and it stands 1.5 inches high. Condition Report: Great condition with no imperfections with age crack to the polychrome coating and a few minor losses to the lacquer.
