Persian Quranic Prayer Book, Mid 19th Century,
The Quran, literally meaning The Recitation, is the central and holy text of 1.2 billion Muslims all around the world which is believed to be word of god and regarded as the miracle of Mohamed and proof of his prophethood. Quran is widely regarded the finest book of literature in the Arabic language. It is composed of different "suras" regarded as Maccan or Medinan depending on place of their revelations by angel Gabriel over period of 23 years. The fist sura was revealed to Mohammad at the age of 40, at 610 AD concluding at his time of death at the age of 63. Proceeding Mohamed's death different Quran were compiled into a single book by order of first Calif Abu Bakr. The present form of the text is accepted by most scholars as the the one compiled by Abu Bakr. Over the centuries it has been the source of inspiration by the artists and calligraphers, all trying to exhibit their talent by writing and decorating this amazing book. This Quranic prayer book, according the calligraphy expert, belongs to Quajar era from Naser-Aldin-Shah period. The text consist of 45 leaves, therefore 90 pages of Quranic verses and words of prayers and also direction in Persian language in respect with timings and arrangements of prayers. Some pages have gilded calligraphy and decorations and each page has gilded boundary. Calligraphy and workmanship is very fine and artist has successfully demonstrated his artistic talent. Size: This wonderful text book's dimension is 6 x 3.75 inches. Condition Report: Due to old age of the text, there are a few pages with wear and repair, otherwise in good condition.
