A FINE 16TH CENTURY PERSIAN DAGGER.
A rare example of early Safavid dynasty quality and form, the carved ivory hilt with grip depicting the royal family on each side, surrounded at top and bottom with two cartouche each engraved with Farsi inscription, probably identifying the ruler, I could read "Malik Ali". Slightly curved , double-edged blade forged of Persian black Damascus wootz steel with Quranic passage in gold to each side of the forte. Leather scabbard with brass tip decorated with floral motifs. Overall length of dagger is approx 16 inches, in fair condition, Scabbard should be from later period .
