Mt. Mansfield, Vermont - Fletcher village winter landscape painting by Thomas R. Curtin (American, 1899-1977). Oil on masonite. Painting size: 18 inches x 24 inches. Circa 1960s. Signed in the lower left and titled on the reverse of the original frame. In this painting, Thomas Curtin has captured the dramatic northern profile of Mount Mansfield in winter, as it towers behind the small, rural community of Fletcher, VT, which is situated only a few miles north of the mountain. Thomas Curtin was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and painted in Cape Ann, Maine and then from 1943 in Vermont, where he is best known for his landscape paintings, and most especially for his winter views. He was friends with his contemporaries John Carlson, Aldro Hibbard and Emile Gruppe. He studied at the prestigious National Academy of Design and the Art Students League, both in New York City.
