Walton Blodgett (American, 1908-1963) - Artist at Work. Pencil on paper. Circa 1930's. Size: 7.5 inches x 10 inches. Unsigned but bearing the embossed stamp of the Walton Blodgett Estate. Walton Blodgett was an American watercolor painter, illustrator and teacher. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he studied at the Grand Central Art School and then with George Luks at the Art Students League in New York. He illustrated for 'Fortune' and other magazines to supplement his income. In the mid 1930's, he relocated to Stowe, Vermont, where he began to paint landscapes in watercolor of the surrounding countryside and villages. His works were popular with tourists, and he continued to paint in Vermont until his untimely death in 1963. In addition to his watercolor paintings, Blodgett made numerous pencil sketches and drawings. This example has descended from the estate of the artist and bears the embossed stamp of the Walton Blodgett Estate.
