Churchill Ettinger painting of skier - Canadian Rockies

Churchill Ettinger (American, 1903-1984) - Canadian Rockies. Oil on canvas board. Circa 1950's. Size: 20 inches x 24 inches. In this painting, a lone skier is descending through powder on a slope in the Canadian Rockies, with jagged, snow-capped peaks visible in the distance. Excellent condition and retaining the original Abercrombie and Fitch label on the verso, which shows the title, "Canadian Rockies." Offered in a new silver leaf, carved plein air frame. Churchill Ettinger is recognized for his many illustrations, etchings and paintings of sporting subjects. He studied at the National Academy of Design in New York City, and also taught at the New York School of Industrial Art. He became a commercial artist and, being an avid outdoorsman and sportsman, was attracted to the top sporting magazines, where he produced many "covers." In the early 1950's, Ettinger moved to Weston, Vermont where he etched and painted outdoor scenes with subjects of angling, hunting, waterfowl, gun dogs and skiing. He produced over 180 drypoint images during his lifetime. (Biographical data excerpted from AskArt archives.)
