Thomas R. Curtin (American, 1899-1977) - 'Saxton's River, Near Bellows Falls, Vermont.' Oil on canvas. Canvas size: 24 inches x 30 inches. Dated on stretcher: March 28, 1974. Offered in the original frame. Excellent original condition but would brighten with a professional cleaning. Thomas Curtin was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and painted in Cape Ann and then, from 1943, in Vermont, where he is known for his landscape paintings and, most especially, for his winter scenes. He was friends with his contemporaries John Carlson, Emile Gruppe and Aldro Hibbard. He studied at the prestigious National Academy of Design and the Art Students League, both in New York City.
