NIcely cast statue of "arhat" (or "arakan" in Japanese) Angaja, one of the 16 famous disciples of Buddha. Angaja is shown wearing a monk's robe, sitting on a rock and holding a long pilgrim staff, on which a gourd is attached, in his right hand. He has very long eyebrows, which are one of his features. The statue is made of bronze, with remnants of red lacquer and gilding. Japan, 19th century, probably earlier. Height: 8" (20 cm). Very good condition.

Statue of the Buddhist Goddess Kannon (Kuan Yin in Chinese), standing on an elevated lotus throne and backed by an aureola. Lacquered and gilt wood. Japan, 19th century. height: 12 7/8" (32 cm). Forearms, right ribbon and right foot missing, base a bit loose, otherwise good condition.
