NIcely cast statue of "arhat" (or "arakan" in Japanese) Angaja, one of the 16 famous disciples of Buddha. Angaja is shown wearing a monk's robe, sitting on a rock and holding a long pilgrim staff, on which a gourd is attached, in his right hand. He has very long eyebrows, which are one of his features. The statue is made of bronze, with remnants of red lacquer and gilding. Japan, 19th century, probably earlier. Height: 8" (20 cm). Very good condition.
