Statue of Buddha in monk's robes sitting cross-legged in meditation posture. Bronze, heavy oxydation, encrusted green patina. China, circa Wu or Western Jin Dynasty (3rd to 4th century). Height: 12 cm. Strong erosion due to great age, old accidents (holes in some areas), otherwise good condition. NOTE 1: although it is quite difficult to put a datation on this piece, there is no doubt that this is one of the earliest representations of the Buddha. NOTE 2: This statue was collected in the early 20th century in the Gobi desert, by its former owner.
