American Sculpture of the 1950s

FREDERIC M. MAYER. Iron sculpture, 31" high, 42" long, 9" deep, 6" x 8" x 1/4" iron base, the entire piece painted rust orange. Unsigned. Circa late 1950s. Fine condition. Provenance: estate of the artist. Frederic M. Mayer (ca. 1918-2001), born in Brooklyn, studied at the University of Hawaii. Self-taught, a member of the East Hampton art community in the 1950s, prior to establishing himself as a realtor in East Hampton. One of a small number of wirework iron sculptures by the artist.
