| A fine gilded composition over wood base picture frame, 11 1/8" x 17 1/2" (sight), 2 1/8" frame width (outer dimensions of frame, 15 1/2" x 21 3/4"), the sight edge with a scallop-shaped motif, narrow hollow, a broad and deep, finely detailed flower-and-leaf motif (the repeats approx. 4 1/2" long) comprising the rounded outer edge. There are at least five repaired sections along the outer edge, the composition element either missing or clumsily replaced, the repairs (like the entire frame, apparently) subsequently re-gilded: the sections are approx. 4 1/2" long (corner), approx. 1" long (near a corner), approx. 4 1/2" long, approx. 4" long, approx. 1" long; one corner of the sight edge / hollow has been repaired; several slight losses of the composition element along the depth (thickness) of the frame, including 1" x 1/4", 7/8" x 1/4", 1" x 1/8", 3/4" x 1/8", 1/2" x 1/4". No date (late nineteenth or early twentieth century). | |||||||
