LOUIS-STYLE PICTURE FRAME

A good red-painted and gray-painted composition over wood base picture frame, 7 3/4" x 15 1/2" (sight; without the linen-covered liner, 8 3/4" x 16 1/2"), 2 3/4" frame width (inclusive of liner) (outer dimensions of frame, 13 1/8" x 20 7/8"), the sight edge with an irregular beaded pattern, a cartouche ornament along each of the outer edges and at the corners, a line of more nearly regular beading on the width (thickness) of the frame. A small (approx. 1/4" x approx. 1/8" x approx. 1mm. deep) piece of composition has been chipped off one of the points of high relief on a corner element; a small (approx. 1/4" x approx. 1/8") piece of composition is missing from the outer edge of the frame, four similarly sized pieces missing from the underside of this outer edge (i.e., they are visible only when the frame is viewed on edge). The coloring of this frame is particularly attractive. No date (probably, early twentieth century).
