SILVER-PAINTED AND GILDED COMPOSITION PICTURE FRAME

A silver-painted and gilded composition over wood base picture frame, 9 5/8" x 7 5/8" (sight), 3" frame width (outer dimensions of frame, 15 3/4" x 13 3/4"), with stepped, decorated sight, the hollow with notched, angled sides, the outer rail with an interlaced ribbon motif. Each corner of the outer edge is missing a piece (approximate dimensions: 1/2" x 1/4"; 1/4" x 1/4"; 1/4" x 1/4"; 1/2" x 3/8"); the outer edge has slight loss of gilding, minute loss of the composition element associated with this; one corner of the edge adjacent to the hollow is missing a piece (approx. 1/2" x approx. 1/2"); some checking to the composition within the stepped sight; slight wear to the brown-painted outside edge (thickness) of the frame, which surface should be repainted. No date (probably, late nineteenth or early twentieth century).
