| "WALDECCENSIS COMITATUS DESCRIPTIO ACCURATISSIMA." Map on off-white, laid, watermarked paper (the watermark of what appears to be crossed arrows), 12 1/4" x 8 5/8" (image), 12 7/8" x 9 3/8" (sheet), old hand-coloring (yellow, greens, rose-red, brown, red), "Septemtrio" letterpress along the upper margin, "Occidens" letterpress along the left margin, "Oriens" letterpress in the right margin, "Meridies" letterpress in the lower margin, "Cum Privilegio. Ces. et Reg. Mts. decennali" letterpress in the upper left corner, "Milliaria Germanica" letterpress below the scale in the lower left quadrant, "Hafsiae con Iustus Moers describ. Anno 1575" letterpress in the lower left corner of the sheet, a decorative cartouche containing the map's title heading the sheet. A 6mm. x 3mm. hole in the sheet, in and adjacent to the letter "M" in the aforementioned "Milliaria," lower left quadrant of the sheet; a 9/16" clean tear to the center right edge of the sheet, extending through the brown-colored border to the map and (just) into the image; slight soiling, recto; some foxing, verso; old tape remains in the upper outer corners, verso. Unframed. We believe this map to be from the 1584 edition of Ortelius' "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum." | ||||||
