| "SIDE BY SIDE." Ceramic construction, 8 3/4" x 7" x 3 1/2" deep, a pair of reverse pyramidally-shaped columns, one of them with open latticework front and rear, a shelf surmounted by a triangular knop resting on one tier of latticework, the other column with incise decoration at its base and, excepting a keyhole-shaped opening front and rear, solid walls, the pair glazed in off-white, pink and black and secured to a stepped ceramic base; the underside is signed "Sires," titled "Side By Side" and dated "82." Several hairline cracks (approximately 1/8" long apiece) where the horizontal lattices of the one column are joined to the sides, a single hairline crack (approximately 1" long) on the interior of the other column (where two walls join), this crack terminating on the top (flat, horizontal) portion of the work, these small defects probably having occurred during firing; a small (1/8" x 1/16") chip to the lower edge of the base and the underside, a portion of this loss just visible when the ceramic is standing on a table; some glaze crazing. A portion of the underside is unglazed; the piece seems to be high fire ware. | |||||||
