| As a result of the glass tax introduced in 1745 measures were taken to reduce the weight of drinking glasses and therefore the tax payable. One innovation was the hollow stemmed glass and this is such an example. Dating to c1760 this finely made glass has a drawn trumpet bowl however the completely hollow stem is a separate piece; mounted on a slightly conical and broad foot with rough pontil. Lead glass. Perfect. Height: 6” Rim Diameter: 2 1/2” Foot Diameter: 2 7/8” Rarely available. | ||
