| A rare English Georgian incised twist wine glass dating to c1750. The large (small goblet sized) round funnel bowl has honeycomb moulding to the lower third. The incised twist stem leads to a wide conical foot with rough pontil. Perfect condition; with some mineral inclusions to the bowl and a tool mark to the edge of the foot. Height: 6 3/16” Rim Diameter: Just under 2 3/4” Foot Diameter: 3” English incised twist glasses are very rare and account for less than 1% of all English Georgian glasses found (source: Barrington Haynes). This is a particularly fine example with evidence at both the bowl and foot rim of where the glass was sheared at production (a subtle little peak); together with good tool marks throughout. Please note that any disturbances seen at the foot of this glass in my photo’s is caused by moisture from the surface the glass is resting on. It was rather damp during my photo session! | ||
