| A rare Georgian wine glass dating to c1760 or perhaps marginally earlier. The rib moulded CUP bowl atop a single series opaque twist stem comprising a spiral gauze with a pair of conforming spiral threads; mounted on a conical foot with rough pontil. English lead glass with a good dark tone. There is a miniscule nick to the underside foot rim; other than that, perfect. Height: 5 1/8” Rim Diameter: 1 3/4” Foot Diameter: Just under 2 ˝” Cup bowls on opaque twists are rare. This bowl type is more usually seen on plain stem glasses of the mid 18th century and earlier and is occasionally seen on air twists. Single series opaque twists are much less common than the double series variety and are usually considered to be of earlier date. The cup bowl and the stem type would therefore place this rare glass early in the opaque twist series with the bowl form a ‘carry over’ from the mid 18th century. A rare glass. | ||
