| A good and large English Georgian heavy baluster wine glass dating to c1715. A large pointed round funnel bowl atop a true baluster stem with an angular knop at the shoulder; the whole mounted on a substantial domed foot with rough pontil. Lead glass with a steely blue tone that experienced collectors will associate with an early date. Good condition with appropriate wear to the bowl and foot rims and an insignificant bubble on the baluster (shown in photo 4). Height: 6 1/16” Rim Diameter: Just under 2 7/8” Foot Diameter: 2 7/8” It is more usual to find an inverted baluster on a glass of this date; probably because that form sits better in the hand. True balusters from this period are comparatively rare. The addition of the angular knop at the shoulder on this particular example presents a resolved solution; both pleasing on the eye and comfortable in the hand. | ||
