| A rare English Georgian wine glass dating to c1760. The large flared bell bowl above a multiple spiral opaque twist stem and conical foot with rough pontil. What makes this glass rare is that even though it is a three piece glass in the conventional sense for an opaque twist; the bowl/stem join is in the solid bowl base and this brings the opaque threads up into the bowl. There is no tangible joint at this point other than the termination of the threads which indicates where the join must be. The glass is made from superb quality lead metal and other than a couple of small unintentional threads of air in the stem; this elegant glass has been produced to a very high standard. Height: 7 1/16” Rim Diameter: 2 3/4” Foot Diameter: 2 7/8” There are various examples of this glass type on page 207 of Bickerton; though those shown are knopped and are slightly shorter than this glass. The type appears to have feet only marginally larger than the generous bowls; however it is conceivable that the foot on this glass has had a light polish; though there is no evidence to support this other than the size relative to the bowl. This is factored into my pricing. | ||
