| An English Georgian wine glass dating to C1760-1765. A waisted bucket bowl above a double series air twist stem comprising a five ply spiral band around a single mercury corkscrew. A conical foot with rough pontil. High quality lead glass and in great condition. A small un-burst bubble at the bowl base. Height: Just over 6 3/8” Rim: 2 3/16” Foot: 2 3/4” Double series air twists are the rarest of the air twist group of glasses* and are seen much less frequently than single series glasses and very much less frequently than the more commonly seen multiple spiral air twists. The waisted bucket bowl is a scarce enough feature on any Georgian wine glass and in combination with a DSAT stem makes for a rare glass. The stem on this glass is the product of a master of the craft. The glass is probably from the same glassworks as my item P18DG 167. *There is apparently an even rarer triple series air twist recorded by Barrington Haynes (p.261) though it seems this classification is based on only a couple of glasses and I can’t recall seeing any glass in modern times that could be so classified. | ||
