C1770 Large Useable Georgian Opaque Twist Wine Glass
A good sized Georgian wine glass dating to C1770. A large round funnel bowl over a double series opaque twist stem comprising a pair of heavy spiral threads around a solid inner cable. A conical foot with rough pontil. Lead glass and in great original condition; though a couple of un-burst bubbles in the foot. Height: 6 1/4” Rim: 2 9/16” Foot: 2 13/16” The attractive and bright stem form is unusual but not rare and can be compared with the stem shown at plate 1,209 in Bickerton. A good glass for personal use or display. This glass was probably made in the same glassworks as my item P18DG 173 and would make a good matched pair with it; though there are naturally fractional variations in dimensions due to hand made production.
