C1810 Rare English Georgian Bristol Green Ale Glass
An English Georgian green ale glass dating to the beginning of the 19th century; C1810-20. An ogee type bowl above a plain stem with merise at the shoulder and a basal support typical of the period. A conical foot with a wide and deep polished pontil with remnants of the scar, the polishing showing pumice haze. Lead glass and in good original condition; though the rim a little uneven from shearing at production. Height: 5 ˝” Rim: 2 1/8” Foot: 2 5/8” The bowl shape is unusual; which coupled with the green metal makes for a rare ale glass. ‘Bristol’ green a misnomer by this date; but in common use. I have a few English Georgian ale glasses listed on eBay this week. Click ‘View sellers other items’ to view the others.
