| An English Georgian goblet dating to C1770. A capacious ovoid bowl period engraved with: hops and barley and associated foliage, ‘M’ over ‘R * I’ or ‘R * E’ and a Ho Ho bird. A drawn plain stem and then a broad conical foot with rough pontil. Lead glass and perfect. Height: 6 ¼” Rim: 3 ¼” Foot: 3 ¾” The hops and barley motif naturally indicate that this glass was used for drinking ale; and in that regard it is unusual in this form. The engraved initials probably indicate that the glass was owned by Mr ‘R’ & Mrs ‘I’ or ‘E’; ‘M’ = surname? A glass to mark a special occasion perhaps? A superbly made large period glass in pristine condition. | ||
