Shaker table pincushion most interesting antique
Antique Shaker pincushion made with the ingenuity that the Shakers are so well known for. This is called a screw ball and unlike the world sewing birds and pincushions that were attached to tables with metal clamps that marred the wood these had two wooden circular disks that gently held the wood. See pictures showing how it attaches to a work table. The top of the pincushion also unscrews so that the fabric can be replaced if need be. The care in the making goes right down to a cloth fabric that lines the bottom of the pincushion. This is in fine working condition and is a very hard to fine shaker sewing clamp that was made for the sister to use. It dates to the 1840's and is in very good condition. It is 8" tall and the pincushion is 3 1/2" in diameter.
