Circa 1840 woman's brown print wool dress antique
A very early woman's wool dress in a deep chocolate brown background and red and blue design. It is all hand sewn and the bodice is lined with a soft rich tan cotton. The hem is generous 9" and backed with a egg wash brown cotton. The pinked edges look like what scissors can do today but this was actually all hand cut. The dress presents it self well but in one of the folds in the front is a fairly large tear...see photo. The tear is on the edge of a pocket and probably caught on something while it was being worn. There are other thin areas but they don't show because of the nature of the design. There are 4 buttons missing. This would be lovely hanging on a peg or hung in a wardrobe. It is 53" long and has the look of early calico fabric. Circa 1840
