This is an antique kneckerchief, (Shaker terminology; the kerchief worn around the neck), that was hand woven and sewn by a sister in 1-12-(18)48. It is ink dated on the inside bottom point of the kerchief and above it is the letter A. This is probable the initial of the Shaker sister that made it in 1848. It is very fine cotton and woven in a Shaker type fashion using different color warps and wefts. This is a spectacular example and worthy of belonging in any fine Shaker collection. The condition is excellent other than some age related stains. It is 52" on the long side of the triangle and 34" and 34" on the two shorter sides. This is a wonderful Shaker kneckerchief and most likely from Mt Lebanon Shaker community.
