Antique naïve painted face black doll wearing a blue calico dress and white blouse. Her painted features are a little faded. She has reddish brown eyebrows, blue eyes surrounded by white paint, two red dots for her nose and red smiling mouth with a row of teeth. She is made with a heavy black grosgrain material. Her face is the same material but is painted black over the black fabric so her face is hard. Her arms and hands are treated the same way. Her arms are hinged as well as her hip and knees. She sits nicely. She has on a blue calico dress that is hand and treadle machine sewn as is her white blouse. She has on very early petticoat and full white slip and a pair of pantaloons. Her legs are covered with black socks and her feet have what looks like hand made leather shoes. Her body is very heavy and firmly packed with some sort of grain. She is circa 1880 and has a very nice presence. A wonderful example of a painted black cloth doll.
