A 20" antique painted face black cloth doll with family note attached and some more recent research on the family from Berryville VA. The doll is all original, all hand sewn, big plump body, great big folky hands and a very nice painted face. Her hair is the astrakhan fabric. Her underclothes are an unbleached cotton. The blue and cream calico dress fits her well and probably is original. She has one brown arm and one black arm but the same brown fabric can be seen under the black fabric on her left leg. She is firmly packed buy not hard. If forced she can sit a little. The note attached to her reads, "Mammy was made by Emily Richardson Pendleton (Good daddy's mother) for John Rust Pendleton ( Uncle John) in 1888." This doll is very nice and to have such extensive history is really wonderful.
