This is a wonderful African American cloth doll with embroidered face, astrakhan hair, ears with earrings and a shapely body. She is firmly stuffed with cotton. Her arms and legs are jointed so she sits easily. Her arms are made so they curve and taper. She has four layers of clothing, I think a couple have been added. There are pantaloons, a full slip, a petticoat, a red wool skirt with some holes, a calico print blouse and a matching calico cape with fringe. She is in excellent condition. Her body is and early brown egg wash fabric. Her legs are a black egg wash fabric of the same weight as the brown. (There is some staining to the pantaloons and the petticoat.) This is really a wonderful example of a Sunday black cloth doll. One to be admired but not necessarily played with. She is from Virginia, is circa 1890, 30" tall and comes with a professional stand.
