| A prestigious arhat figure was uniquely molded in cast-iron. Soldered in several parts, the arhat was rendered finely in features with details when obvious welding lines were being left on the two sides. By a benign facial expression, the Buddha was seated on a pedestal. As a metal religious figure, cast-iron was a material which was rarely found in the market by its easily eroded condition. For this piece, it was preserved in over all good condition with many original casting hole on the body. The surface of the iron was stable and part of the surface was in charming patina. By the unique style of the pause, the characteristic facial features, the style of the wearing robe (especially the cloth decorated on the front) and the slender torso molded, we presumed the piece was from Ming or Qing, or at least late Qing period. Date: 19th Century, Height: 12 in. | ||
