| Beautiful 9 1/2" vase in Standard Glaze with raised floral decoration, gently slip decorated so that every part of the design can be felt, adding both depth and tactile interest to this piece. This is considered a rare technique in Standard Glaze with the feel of the vase indicating a raised texture with the decoration being in a heavy carved slip that can be felt on the entire surface of the decoration. The background shades from brown to yellow green to red-orange to orange, a perfect backdrop for the soft and subtle floral, leaf, and closed bud design in shades of yellow, red, brown, ochre and green. A great Rookwood vase in color, shape and texture. John Dee Wareham one of Rookwood’s best and most flamboyant decorators and later head designer and then manager of Rookwood masterfully created this vase. The base is impressed with the Rookwood 9 flame mark indicating a date of 1895 and monogram of John Dee Wareham. This vase is in pristine condition having no crazing, chips, cracks or repairs. | |
