A rare Japanese Hirado censer decorated in underglaze blue seven groups of reed sin water on its balloon-form upper section. The staining and cracking to the round base's upper section indicates it actually was used to burn incense. Dating is difficult due to its unusual shape, but mid-19th century is probably a correct age. Measurements are 15.8cm high X 14cm diameter, or 6 1/8" X 5 1/2".

This Imari charger measures 58.2cm diameter, or 22.75 inches. It dates to the Meiji period, about 1880. Its complex decoration includes eagles on pines and a central maple growing from behind a draped cloth screen or fence. The base has small firing spur marks to support it during firing. It probably was made for export to Europe or the United States. There is very minor wear to the enamels but no chips or cracks. Due to its large size, shipping will be charged to the buyer.
