| A beautifully patinated hardwood crosspiece for a pothook adjuster carved as a carp. This carp was part of a device for suspension of a kettle or cook pot over a fire in a Japanese home. It shows evidence of extensive use; the hole in its head has been relined in the past with bamboo, now worn itself and the surface has a good patina. The iron fittings are old and hand forged. Eyes are onlaid with copper disks. It is 35.5cm long or 14 inches. This piece dates to the 19th century. The bad news: a group of cracks at the tail's base indicate an old break, somewhat difficult to see under the crusty patina. | ||
