| A Japanese stoneware plate by Kato Shunto, with box (tomobako) signed by the artist. The plate's base has his mark as well. Born in 1916, Kato Shunto is a Seto potter resident in that city. This plate is decorated with underglaze cobalt-blue bamboo sprays under a nearly transparent greenish-yellow glaze that forms drips on the exterior. The face has a slightly irregular surface created by pressing the still damp plate against a piece of coarse cloth during manufacture. It measures 25cm diameter or 10 inches. It comes from the estate of Shigeo Kato. | ||
