| Gorgeous set of handpainted game bird plates by Royal Doulton. There are 11 in all. Approximately 9" in diameter. Each is artist signed T. Wilson. Tom Wilson is an artist who worked for Doulton Burslem. Examples of plates painted with game, birds, and fish, dated between 1911 and 1920, and signed by the artist, have been reported. Marks include the logo for Royal Doulton England that was used from 1902-1922, Davis & Collamore & Co LTD 5th Ave & 48th St. NY. They all have the mark for the Herbert Betteley Studios, HB 8324. Like Robert Allen, Betteley was entrusted by John Slater with the control of a selected group of gifted artists. The initials HB followed by a number identify many designs produced under his supervision. Each plate is numbered E7645. The E numbers are for China. They have impressed mark of 13 or 18 which usually dates the piece. Each one has a different game bird in it's environment with a fancifully decorated gilt border that is approximately 3/4" wide. The name of each bird is also written on the back. They include: Teal, Woodcock, Prarmigan, Black Grouse, Red Leg'd Partridge, Water-Rail, Pochatch, Mallard, Red Grouse, Snipe and Pintail. | |||||||||||||||
