| Gorgeous coin silver water pitcher made by renowned silversmith, William Forbes for Ball, Tomkins & Black of New York. c.1845. Approximately 10" tall and 7 5/8" from handle to spout. It weighs approximately 29 troy ounces. No monogram. Hand chased acanthus and floral decoration. Leaf and vine cap, rolled vine feet, acanthus handle. This beautiful piece is from the New York City firm of Ball, Tompkins & Black. Examples of their work are found in museums and important private collections worldwide. The firm succeeded Frederick and Josiah Marquand in 1839. They continued, until 1851, when Ball, Black & Company was born. Very good condition. Seemingly never used. If not for a single, shallow 1/8th inch line-indent, mid-leaf, leaf to left of handle, we would described as pristine. Rich, glowing silver patina. The extensive hand chased finish work retains its original, meticulous detail throughout. Elaborate hallmarks, delineating a partial history of the firm, "Ball, Tompkins & Black Successors to Marquand & Co., New York "W.F." | |||||||||||||
