Pair of London Sterling Silver Sauce Boats
Gorgeous pair of sterling silver sauce boats by J & J Aldous of London. Approximately 36 troy ounces. 5" tall to tip of handle. 9" from spout to handle and 4 1/8" wide. Beautiful floral, leafy scrolled repousee design with a gadrooned edge. 3 paw feet with acanthus leaves above. No monogram. These sauce boats are very heavy and large. Marks include the lion, leopard head, P, and the duty mark with the head facing right. The letter indicates that these lovely pieces are dated 1830-31. The silversmith's marks are for Joseph & John Angell c.1831. They were from a very fine 19th century London family of goldsmiths. They are in great condition and very beautiful.
