Bronze Tazza Hunting Scene by Jules Moigniez
Wonderful bronze tazza of hunting scene by Jules Moigniez, French 1835-1894. Approximately 10 1/2" high and 11 1/2" wide at widest point. Signed on the bottom of the fox, J. Moigniez. The fox is on the top looking down at it's prey. The plate has running elk, eagles flying and rabbits fleeing around a wooded area. Under the tray is a vulture or condor seated on a rock with leaves and berries all around ready to attack. The base is black marble with a bronze edge. The hey-day of the Animalier was the period from 1830-1890 and the home of the best Animalier sculpture at this time was France, the land of Bayre and the Bonheurs, of Fremiet and Fratin, of Mene and Moigniez and many others. Jules Moigniez was a fine modeler, specializing in dog and bird bronzes. More than half his output was exported, many pieces crossing the Atlantic into American collections. Very good condition.
