| Beautiful coin silver large ladle by noted silversmith John C. Moore. Approximately 14" long. The bowl measures 3 3/8" deep x 4 1/4" wide. It weighs approximately 8 1/2 troy ounces. Monogrammed M.S.F. Marked ALLCOCK & ALLEN, J.C.M. and PATENT 1847. According to Dorothy Rainwater's book on American Silver Manufacturers, John Chandler Moore was associated with the firm of Eoff & Moore. He made silverware for Marquand & Co., and also for their successors, Ball Thompkins & Black. In 1847 John Moore designed and Patented a flatware pattern (Design Patent No. 124, May 29, 1847) that is similar to the Prince Albert design of Henry Hebbard. He was the father of Edward C. Moore who became Tiffany's chief silver designer and manager of their silver works. Very good condition. | |||||||||
