Watercolor Painting of Boats in Harbor by John A Cook
For sale is a beautiful watercolor painting of boats in harbor by John A. Cook, Gloucester 1870-1936. I believe it to be Gloucester Harbor. Approximately 15" x 22" WITH the frame and matting. WITHOUT the frame and matting it measures 6 1/2" x 13 1/4". Signed lower right, J.A. Cook. The frame is original and in very good condition with only a couple of small chips. The colors are beautiful in this painting. John A. Cook is a listed American artist who lived from 1870-1936. He was a painter, born in Gloucester, Mass on March 14, 1870. Pupil of DeCamp, El Major & Douglas Volk. Member: S. Indp. A.; North Shore Art Assn.; Boston Art Club; New Haven PPC; AFA. Address in 1929, 16 Sayward St.; home-8 Highland St.; Summer, 67 E.Point Rd., Gloucester MA. He is listed in Who was Who in american Art, Fieldings and Mallett. Label on the back reads, Tel. Schuyler 9777, The Belnord Art Galleries, Leo Kahn, Prop., Artistic Framing, 548 Amsterdam Avenue, at 86th Street New York. There is also a name written with October 1963. (See photo) Very good condition. We will be exhibiting at the Greater Boston Antiques Festival on October 17 & 18, 2009. It is located at the Shriner's Auditorium in Wilmington MA.
