Rare and nostalgic chromolithograph entitled Yuletide in Canada shows a boy pushing a girl in a sled bedecked with mistletoe. The frame , almost as important as the image, has a faux mahogany finish with gold liner, and is quite old. The back is thin wood. The condition of the print appears good with a couple of foxing spots at the bottom, but should be rematted, preferably using the current framing, as it is rather discolored...

We are aware of two prints of James Monroe having very similar design and rendering, produced by two different publishers. One was produced by D W Kellog & Co between 1830 - 42; the other was published by Nathaniel Currier c. 1835 prior to his partnership with James Ives in 1857. The differences are minor - the Kellog print is entitled James Monroe, fifth President of the United States whereas the Currier print is entitled James Monroe, 5th. President of the United States...

What a treat to have a genuine chromolithograph after seeing so many offset lithographs! This nostalgic vignette of children fishing was produced with highest production standards and retains its fresh striking colors nearly 120 years after its production. The matting and framing obscure the publisher and artist, but it is of a caliber of the very best illustrators of the day...
