An early 20th century formal portrait of a lady painted by one of the leading portraitists of that century, Stanislav Rembski (1896-1998). A native of Poland, Rembski immigrated to the United States in the 1920s, working first in Brooklyn Heights, then Baltimore around 1940.
His paintings are in museum and private collections world wide, having been commissioned by Eleanor Roosevelt to paint a posthumous portrait of her husband, and of Woodrow Wilson. Subjects and clients have included numerous celebrities and other prominent persons.
This painting features a lovely lady wearing an ecru sleeveless dress with a colorful shawl. The simple chair in which she sits belies the valuable jade earrings and necklace she holds in her hands.
