 American Iron Weathervane of Indian with Bow and Arrow
New York mid-19th century height 58cm width 58.5cm Fashioned from seven pieces of sheet iron and secured to an armature with hand forged rivets. He holds a bow and arrow. Dressed in a feathered headdress and wearing a fringed waist cloth. The Museum of American Folk Art has another example of an Indian weathervane from one of the faternal orders that incorporated Indian costume and habits and pledged oaths to the ideals of Tammany. "The Imperial Order of Redmen". The reverse side is actually enhanced by the boldness of the armature.
