| Paris 1774 to 1790 length 21cm Height 9.5cm An opposing pair of porcelain water buffalo. As finely modeled as one would expect from their Chinese inspiration. Many experts in the field do mistake these as being of Chinese Origin. It is only the underglaze mark of Vincent Jerome Dubois that gives their true identify as being French. The delicate modeling of the forelocks and the protruding eyes give these figures an appearance of realism. Even when viewed from the Southern exposure of the North bound buffalo they are charming because they are now looking directly at you. For an appreciation of Dubois see: "Porcelain of Paris" by Regine de Plinval de Guillebon. | |||||||
