An arresting colored and beautifully quilted cotton and some sort crape or crepe Amish quilt typical of Lancaster County Pennsylvania with the initials “DE” and the date 1916 embroidered in one corner of the red cotton back. In the central diamond the seven point star quilted star is surrounded by a feather wreath and a star in each of the four corners. The other parts of the center are quilted with small squares, flowers and chains enclosing flowers. The outside border is quilted with a running and waving feather border around each corner with flower heads in the wave troughs. 77 inches square.

Condition: clean and generally good except that the material of the band enclosing the diamond is deteriorating. I think that this may be a type of blended silk crepe and the fibers are unraveling. This is true mainly for the strip on the left side. The top and bottom bands are made up of two sections of cloth. All four sides of the back have had velco basted to the edges.

This quilt is wonderfully constructed and quilted. The colors are quite muted except for the magenta which gives it a great deal of presence. Difficult colors to get to reproduce on the computer.
