This superb quality piece was identified by Vienna´s auction house Dorotheum Chinese Art Expert Prof. Dr. Jorinde Ebert as an extremely rare upper part of an incense burner in the shape of the figure of a Bodhidarma, Southern Song to Yuan Dynasty, Longquan ware, thirteenth to fourteenth centuries.
The suggested period of manufacture is consistent with a TL – result of Oxford Authentication.

Since there still are no publications concerning this kind of ware, this extremely decorative and of course genuine Jar is difficult to date.
Most probably this Jar is from the Song Dynasty (Private kiln, Fujian / Guandong ) but it also could be that this Jar is later, from the 14th - 15th century .
Another possibility is, that this rare Jar belongs to Shiwan ware.

Among Canton enamels a never seen quality like this.
The images do not show that, but the full beauty of the small ornaments on this very small tray ( 11 cm. X 12,5 cm. ) you only can regard with a magnifying glass.
But not just the execution of the ornaments is outstanding, please regard alone the face of this young woman in the center of the piece. An extremely rare green-glazed Lotus Vase Liao Dynasty of compressed double-gourd form, emanating from a splayed lotus base, the lower section of sumptuous flared form, moulded with crisp vertical lappets, covered all over in a pale green glaze, the lappets alternating from green to brown to yellow.
